Monday, August 21st, 2017

blocked drainage pipe caused by ingress of tree rootsUnderstandably, the idea of living without a reliable indoor plumbing system is incomprehensible for most modern homeowners. Each time you use a toilet, take a shower, run the dishwasher, or use the washing machine, you are depending on your plumbing system—to deliver the water that you need throughout the home to necessary fixtures and appliances, but also to drain the waste and wastewater away once the task at hand is complete.

Considering just how much you rely on your plumbing system, it should be pretty apparent just how disruptive any problem with this system can really be. One problem that a lot of homeowners fail to see coming is damage and operational issues cause by tree root invasion.

How Does Hydro-Jetting Work?

Wednesday, March 11th, 2015

Regular drain cleaning is an excellent way to maintain the health of your home’s plumbing system and keep away routine clogging problems. Professionals use a variety of tools to see that the drains in your home are cleared of all obstructions and accumulations, such as minerals and fat and grease. You can also call on professionals to clean your drains in case of an emergency, such as when an obstinate clog stops up your kitchen sink and the standard plunger won’t get rid of it.

Perhaps the most useful device in the arsenal of a professional drain cleaner is the hydro-jetter. Our plumbers at APC Plumbing & Heating often use hydro-jetting to provide our customers in Englewood, CO with drain cleaning that is thorough but doesn’t damage the pipes. When you want to arrange for drain cleaning—either as an emergency or a routine maintenance task—give us a call. We have helped customers with superb plumbing work since 1984.

The basics of hydro-jetting

The principle behind hydro-jetting is using the force of high-pressure water to scour away blockages and build-up from the inside of a drainpipe. A hydro-jetter consists of a tank of water with a motor attached to it that places the water under very high pressure, usually 3500 psi (although there are industrial models that go much higher than this). Connected to the water tank is a long hose that ends in a number of interchangeable nozzles.

When cleaning drains, a plumber lowers the hose down into a drain opening, then activates the motor to pressurize the water. The water blasts out through the nozzle, which directs the spray both forwards and backwards. (The plumber will select the right nozzle for the specific job.) The high pressure of the water is enough to blast through any obstruction, causing the debris to run down into the sewer system. It will also scour away the build-up along the drainpipe interior, leaving a fully cleaned drain. The cleaning power of hydro-jetting will make it much harder for deposits to start accumulating once more, which makes it a very effective long-term way of caring for plumbing.
