Signs of Furnace Trouble

If you invest in routine heating maintenance for your furnace each year, then it has the potential to last many years. However, no matter how well you take care of your system, there will eventually come a time that it needs to be replaced. It’s best to know the signs that the time has come before it actually happens.

Weather is certainly getting chillier now, but waiting even longer to replace a furnace could mean getting stuck in the coldest part of the year without a functioning heater, which nobody wants! Keep reading for some of the signs that you do in fact need a new furnace.

Your Heating Bills Have Risen from Last Year

It’s only natural that your electrical bill or gas bill will spike during this time of year. But compare your costs to last year, or even to the costs of your neighbors. If you notice a significant increase in your own costs, the reason could certainly be that your furnace isn’t working as efficiently as it once was, and is struggling to stay functional.

You Need Frequent Repairs

No furnace system is perfect, which means that sooner or later you’re going to need to fix yours for one reason or another. Most furnaces shouldn’t need repairs more than once every few years, however. As a furnace gets near the end of its lifecycle, it will begin to have parts of it fail in groups. This leads to more frequent repairs. If you find yourself needing service a few times a year, you likely need a new furnace.

Your Furnace is Aging

And of course, aging is a factor in furnace replacements. When a furnace reaches a certain age, it just cannot perform as it once did. If it gets older than 15 years or so, it’s going to become too expensive to keep running in a cost-effective manner.
